Ed: That marks the end of our game
Line of Events
Sheryl Bradshaw, a single woman looking for a suitor on the hit 1970s television series, chooses the charming bachelor Rodney Alcala, unaware that behind the man’s suave facade hides a deadly secret. The comment about Sheryl’s breasts was “literally taken from something that happened to me when I was 19. Near the end of the movie, her name is spelled Cheryl in one of the stories that reveal what happened after the movie.” Her name was actually spelled Sheryl, which was correct on the cast list.
Well, Cheryl, it’s time to make a decision!
Reference in CTV News at Six Toronto: September 8, 2023 (2023) episode. A very gripping and incredibly creepy film, an outstanding directorial debut for Anna Kendrick. This film serves as a stark reminder that as women we go through life as prey.
that’s what Kendrick’s character does
Prey in the physical sense, for patients like 'bachelor number three' (serial killer Rodney Alcala), as well as prey to a sick patriarchal system where we are constantly treated as less than. The ones rejecting this film are boys, not men, whose fragile egos can’t bear to be reminded that they’re part of the problem, and really can’t bear to see a woman who refuses to be treated less than that. Her behavior towards the misogynistic clowns in 'The Dating Game' it’s brilliant.
Ladies, always listen to your instincts, they are literally made to keep you alive
Later in the film, the scene in the restaurant and the one who later tells Alcala “I’m not going anywhere with you”; it is a powerful example of seeing the danger you face and saving your own life. In a patriarchy that perpetuates the treatment of women as second-class citizens, unworthy of dignity, respect and protection, we must be our own best protectors and advocates. Great film Kendrick, I look forward to seeing more of her work as a director..
